Congratulations Dr. Daniel Justice, co-recipient of the MLA prize

First Nations and Indigenous Studies wishes to congratulate Dr. Daniel Justice for receiving the MLA Prize for Studies in Native American Literatures, Cultures, and Languages for The Oxford Handbook of Indigenous American Literature.

New York, NY – 6 December 2016 – The Modern Language Association of America today announced it is awarding its second MLA Prize for Studies in Native American Literatures, Cultures, and Languages to James H. Cox, of the University of Texas, Austin, and Daniel Heath Justice, of the University of British Columbia, for their book The Oxford Handbook of Indigenous American Literatures, published by Oxford University Press.

kuʻualoha hoʻomanawanui, of the University of Hawaiʻi, Mānoa, has received honorable mention for her book Voices of Fire: Reweaving the Literary Lei of Pele and Hiʻiaka, published by the University of Minnesota Press. The prize is awarded for an outstanding scholarly study of Native American literature, culture, or languages written by a member of the association.
